Having a baby can be expensive. Some expectant mothers are not covered by insurance, while others are without maternity benefits. Our free clinic allows you to access everything you need for a healthy baby and a smooth pregnancy.
Conveniently located on the campus of Mercy Medical Center, our doors opened in 1991 in collaboration with Mercy and Hillcrest Family Services to serve the women of Dubuque, Jones and Delaware counties who are in need of prenatal/postnatal care. We provide all the necessary services right in one office, including:
Free and confidential on-site pregnancy testing for eligible individuals
Assistance with hospital pre-registration and paperwork
Prenatal care throughout your entire pregnancy
Onsite lab draws
Ultrasound at Mercy's Imaging Services Department
Nutrition education
Dental education and hygiene
Counseling
Education and preparation for labor, delivery, and infant care
Referrals (if needed) to other health care or local community services
Preparation for your role as a parent
Delivery of your baby at the Mercy Birth Center
Postpartum care
Post-delivery home visit by Mercy Birth Center staff
Lactation consultant support services for moms choosing to breastfeed
Home visit by a nurse following the delivery of your baby
Insurance application assistance
Access to WIC (Women, Infants and Children) prenatal services
Application assistance for Medicaid/Title 19 or Title 5 funding
